Maximising learning opportunities and outcomes for children in a safe, secure and supportive learning environment.

Home Reading Program

We believe that reading is a very enjoyable activity and an empowering skill.  All skills need to be practised and that is one reason why we have a home reading scheme.

Home Reading is also an activity which allows children to experience various text types and to widen their reading experiences and general knowledge.

The NSW DET recommends that children in K-2 should read for at least 10 minutes per night and children in 3-6 should read for at least 15 minutes per night.

To encourage children to participate in the Home Reading Program we offer the following incentives:

  • After 10 nights of home reading, students receive a sticker for their reading log.

  • After 50 nights of home reading, students receive a bronze certificate and a bookmark.

  • After 100 nights of home reading, students receive a silver certificate and a small prize.

  • After 150 nights of home reading, students receive a gold certificate and a book prize.

  • After 200 nights of home reading, students receive a Home Reader Bronze Medallion.

  • The process is repeated again at the Silver Medallion Level and the Gold Medallion Level.

In 2009, we are also introducing the Premier's Reading Challenge
